Discussions about war and human rights

The project "Work with Russia's Public Opinion to Form the Unbiased and Balanced Appraisal of Russia's Actions in the North Caucasus and Caucasus as a Whole" has been launched by the Memorial Society in several regions of the country this autumn. Its aim is to inform the people in Russia on the situation in the region (in Chechnya, first of all) and to build the public opinion so that to change the situation. This project is sequential to one of Memorial's most known human rights programs "Hot Spots", which concentrates completely around tragic developments in the Chechen Republic.

Within the framework of the project in Ryazan, the Human Rights School attached to Ryazan's Memorial Society started in mid-November a series of discussions "War and Human Rights".

On November 14, a discussion was held at the City Youth Palace, with representatives of youth groups of national communities and human rights organizations of Ryazan being participants in it. On November 15, students and activists of the Human Rights School and youth projects of Ryazan's Memorial debated at the Ryazan Free Lyceum. Three more discussions on the subject "War and Human Rights" are planned to be held in Ryazan in December and January.
