Neftekumsk

Rayon (sector) centre in Stavropol kray (region), 305 km east of Stavropol. Located in Ciscaucasia, on the right bank of the Kuma River, 85 km from the railway station of Budyonovsk, on the Budyonovsk - Kizlyar motorway. Population (1992 est.) 23.6 thousand, (1979 est.) 20.1 thousand.

Town since 1968. Present Neftekumsk has PО Stavropolneftegaz (a gas-processing plant, oil-pumping and gas-compressor stations, etc.); a bakery and a milk-processing plant, etc. The vicinities of Neftekumsk are engaged in oil production.

The town has a monument to discoverers of oil in Stavropol kray, the 1941-1945 Victory Memorial, the architectural and sculptural ensemble of Europe - Asia.
