Kurganinsk

Rayon (sector) centre in Krasnodar kray (region), 248 km east of Krasnodar. Located in Ciscaucasia, on the right bank of the Laba River (tributary of the Kuban). Railway station (Kurgannaya) in the Armavir - Tuapse line; Kurgannaya is the starting point of a branch to Shedok. Airport. Population (1992 est.) 42 thousand, (1979 est.) 36.9 thousand.

In the end of the 19th century, the stanitsa (Cossack village) of Kurgannaya was a constituent of Labinsk otdel (section), Kuban oblast (province); with about 4 thousand people; there was a church, a school, 22 shops.

The town of Kurganinsk since 1961. Present Kurganinsk has food-processing industry (a sugar-refinery, a cannery, a dairy factory, a poultry-processing plant, a food-processing plant); a hemp factory, a wood-concrete factory.
