Russian Embassy to Abkhazia warns tourists about the threats

The Embassy of the Russian Federation to Abkhazia recommends Russian tourists to show increased caution in the context of the deterioration of the criminal situation in the republic. Semyon Grigoriev, the Russian Ambassador to Abkhazia, has noted that Russia is ready to take "additional measures," should the republic's authorities fail to ensure tourists' safety.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 11, a Russian tourist Andrei Kabanov was killed in Abkhazia.

Tourists are advised "to avoid uninhabited places and to refrain from conflicts with local population," and "not to leave their small children and personal belongings unattended," writes the website of the Russian Embassy to Abkhazia.

Ambassador Semyon Grigoriev has noted that ensuring the safety of Russian tourists "is a priority for the Abkhazian leadership."

After the attack on tourists, residents of Abkhazia began accompanying Russian tourists on their way to beaches and to other recreation places, the "Sputnik-Abkhazia" reports with reference to Aida Otyrba, a resident of the village of Primorskoe. She treats the aggravation of the criminal situation in the republic as the result of "intrigues of unfriendly forces that are trying to destabilize the situation."
