Armenians criticize authorities for price growth

Residents of Armenia have complained about the rise in prices for many goods. The opposition bloc "Elk" has urged citizens to go to protest against the growth of prices.

Since January 1, in Armenia, due to the entry into force of the new tax code and increase of excises, prices for gasoline, compressed gas and diesel fuel increased, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Residents of Yerevan have experienced a sharp rise in prices for a number of goods since late 2017.

On January 15, Marina Babayan, a resident of Yerevan, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that she was "shocked when she saw prices for butter and meat in a store."

The woman believes that even prior to the actual rise in prices, the state should have thought about its citizens, raise salaries and pensions to ensure that people would not perceive the increase in prices so sharply.

In connection with the rise in prices, the parliamentary opposition faction "Elk" announced its plans to hold a protest action in the form of a march with the demand to amend the new tax code and not to increase the tax burden.

Lena Nazaryan, an MP from the opposition bloc "Elk", has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that on January 19, the bloc calls on all Armenian citizens to join them and take part in the planned march of protest in Yerevan.
