Chechnya "improves" Muslim tradition of naming mosques

The large mosque being built in Shali and named after Ramzan Kadyrov was awarded the title "Muslims' Pride". It was invented by the retinue of the head of Chechnya in order to please Kadyrov, the residents of the republic interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe.

The opening of the mosque is scheduled for August 23 this year.

According to the "Grozny-Inform", the opening of the mosque is timed to the 68th birthday of the first president of Chechnya, Akhmat-Hadji Kadyrov.

Residents of Chechnya have ambiguously perceived the idea to name the mosque in Shali "Muslims' Pride". Some people think it unethical to name a mosque like that; others believe that the name was invented by Kadyrov's retinue with the desire to please him.

In Chechnya, mosques have been named after Ramzan Kadyrov's relatives for more than 10 years. In 2008, one of the largest mosques in Europe – "Heart of Chechnya" – named after Akhmat Kadyrov was opened in Grozny.

"Who needs these mosques when people can barely survive? These mosques won't benefit you," the user maktub_32_ wrote on the Instagram.

Earlier, on July 28, Ramzan Kadyrov announced that a large mosque would be built in the village of Mairtup in memory of Tamerlan Musaev, the head of the police department, who died in a traffic accident. This news surprised local residents accustomed that mosques are named after Kadyrov's relatives.
