Residents of Northern Caucasus report how to save money on preparation for Eid al-Adha

This year, in Kabardino-Balkaria, some residents decided not to buy sacrificial meat because of the price growth on the eve of Eid al-Adha. Islam forbids any artificial price increase before the holiday, warn researches engaged in oriental studies.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Ingushetia, the day of August 12 was declared a day off in connection with the celebration of Eid al-Adha. Chechnya announced days off for August 12 and 13.

In Kabardino-Balkaria, the prices for mutton and beef went up on the eve of Eid al-Adha.

The laws do not regulate price changes on the eve of the holiday, says Akhmet Yarlykapov, a research engaged in oriental studies. "Everything is mainly regulated by the conscience of a Muslim," he notes.

Meanwhile, due to the specifics of market relations, price may increase before holidays because of high demand, Akhmet Yarlykapov adds.

In Islam, forced pricing can be considered unfair, notes Dagestani theologian Rasul Shakhov. According to him, Islam suggests a ban on the monopolization of markets and price inflation: for example, the Prophet Muhammad called it a sin to restrain from selling goods until an increase in prices. However, in modern Dagestan, the market cannot be regulated in accordance with Sharia, the expert admits.
