Jermuk residents refuse to unblock road to Amulsar Mine

Opponents of the development of the Amulsar field in the resort city of Jermuk have stated that they won't open the road thereto; and if law enforcers try to break through the blockade, they will quickly mobilize.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that protest actions against the development of the Amulsar deposit and operation of the mine located there date back to 2014. On September 20, 2019, opponents of the development held a march in the resort city of Jermuk and surrounding communities, threatening a new wave of protests should the Armenian government fail to adopt a final decision on the issue of gold mining from the deposit.

At the December 15 meeting, residents of Jermuk unanimously voted against opening roads to the Amulsar deposit, the "news.am" writes with a link to the page of the "Armenian Environmental Front" initiative in the Facebook.

At a meeting with townspeople, Ani Khachatryan, a member of the initiative group, noted that if force is used against Jermuk residents, women and children must be quickly mobilized "to stand without violence" until activists are ready to help.
