Authorities assure residents of North Ossetia of cell towers' safety

New generation communications technologies pose no threat to the health of North-Ossetian residents, the republic's information technology and communications department has assured.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 20, a GSM tower was burned down in the village of Nogir; and the village is now without communication.

People who don't believe in the existence of coronavirus, who are afraid of introducing the fifth-generation network (5G) and of "chipping", have burned down the MTS (network provider) antenna, Vyacheslav Bitarov, the head of North Ossetia, has informed.

The fears about the harm to health from cellular equipment are scientifically unjustified, said Alan Salbiev, the head of the above department for information technologies and communications.

"So far, in Russia, there are no such networks (5G), except for some small pilot projects in a number of major cities. There are no real grounds for fear of possible health damage from the equipment of cellular networks," Mr Salbiev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The 5G technologies of mobile networks aren't different (in the impact on the human) from those used today – the 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G," the head of the technical directorate of the regional branch of one of the major mobile communication companies told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "All this is electromagnetic radiation, like in a microwave oven," he said, treating all the allegations of the dangers of 5G networks as hype.
