Opposition sets up tents in front of parliament building in Tbilisi

In Tbilisi, protesters have set up a tent camp near the parliament building. Opposition supporters from regions intend to join them during the day. Should the situation deteriorate, protesters threaten to set up tents on the roadway.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 23, the police conducted a special operation in Tbilisi to detain Nika Meliya, the leader of the oppositional United National Movement (UNM) Party. On the same day, Meliya's supporters held a large-scale protest action near the building of the Georgian Government. The rallies will not stop until early elections are announced and all the political prisoners are released, the opposition has claimed.

Law enforcers do not interfere with the opposition's actions, but do not allow them to set up tents on the roadway, the "Interfax" reports. "The tents at the parliament are part of our struggle against the anti-popular regime. This is our legitimate right to express protest," the "Interfax" quotes Zaal Udumashvili, an UNM leader, as saying.
