Yerevan: opposition demands to release protesters

The public and political figures detained at peaceful protests in Yerevan are acting openly and will not hide from the investigation or obstruct it, the petition of the "Resistance" oppositional movement reads.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on Tuesday (May 17), the opposition resumed marches in Yerevan demanding the resignation of the government. Activists blocked streets; and 414 people were detained on charges of disobedience to law enforcers. Igor, a son of Yuri Khachaturov, a former head of the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization), was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a policeman.

Disobedience actions were launched in Armenia on April 25. Opposition supporters were outraged by the statement of Nikol Pashinyan, who admitted a possibility of "lowering the bar" on the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, referring to the calls of the international community. He also said that he could have avoided casualties in the 2020 autumn war by surrendering territories.

Members of the "Resistance" oppositional movement began collecting signatures in support of "illegally and groundlessly" arrested activists during the protests.
