Second court sitting on case of "Kavkaz-Center" was held in Vilnius

The second court sitting on the case of the propriety of blocking the international Chechen agency's website "Kavkaz-Center" by the Lithuanian State Security Department (SSD) was held in Vilnius on Friday. During its first sitting the court decided to make an examination of the written conclusion of the Lithuanian SSD in which it was asserted that the "Kavkaz-Center" was breaking laws of the country in its publications.

Having briefly examined the course of the mission execution, the judge decided to carry over the date of the sitting for three weeks.

While giving comments on the hearing in question, the head of the Lithuanian Helsinki Group, the member of the Lithuanian Presidential Council for Pardon, one of the most popular dissidents in the country Viktoras Petkus announced that human rights activists were going to watch closely the course of the trial and hoped the laws of Lithuania would turned out to be more powerful than any short-term political interests.
